Every now and then a quilt comes along that has something to say. This one said it loud and clear from the moment I unfolded the panel.

“She’s Whiskey in a Teacup”
If you know, you know. That phrase — refined on the outside, a little fire underneath — is exactly the kind of woman I had in mind while I was quilting this. The panel designer already had a strong vision, and honestly, it didn’t need much help. It’s warm and feminine without being fussy.
My contribution was the quilting — an allover swirl pattern that moves across the whole top. It softens the piece a little, gives it flow, and adds that texture you can only feel when you’re holding a handmade quilt. The swirls felt right for this one. Nothing rigid about a woman who’s whiskey in a teacup.
This quilt is waiting for the right woman to come along and claim her. I picture someone who puts flowers on the table and her boots by the door — who laughs loud, loves fiercely, and doesn’t dim herself for anyone. A little whiskey in her soul, served up in the prettiest teacup you’ve ever seen.
This quilt will be available for sale at the Plano Farmer’s Market.
